This is a new bank tojbe established at Marion by the stockholders of the Bank of New Hanover, and the citizens of Marion, immediately. I I The Bank of Marion! will have ample facilities for accommodating : the business men of Wilmington, or other points, who are willing to pay the j market value : of money; as nearly all the present capital of the Bank of New Hanover jwill be invested in the new institution. ! This action of the stockholders of the Bank of New-Hanover will no doubt be fol- owed by other banks in this: State, as no sane man expects a bank to loan money at 8 per cent, when the expense of conduct ing a bank is neatly 8 per cent, on its capital. ' . I Tbufc the usury bill of iNorth 'Carolina drives capital from our owrl State into a neighboring State where there -are no re strictions on money, and nobody gets any money at 6 or 8 per cent as i far as heard from. ? Messrs. J. & W. Toixkt 29 Maiden Lane, New York: The 10-guage Gun No. 3078 1 ordered from yon gives me entire satisfaction. I was very exacting when or dering the Gon, bat mnst eay that you have more than fulfilled what I required, of yon. I have shot several bret ch-leaders by first-class makers, and your gua beats them all for bea ty and workman ship.. As for shooting qualities, yoar gas , shoots stronger and more even than any gun I ever shot, I have shown it to several good judges (including first-class gunmaken) and all agree that the action is very strong and durable, and that the gun ia one xt the best they ever saw. I have made some very long shots with it, using only 8 drs. ef powder. which is all your gun requires. I have shot it at a targat according to the rules Of the Turf, Field and Farm trials, and the average of .6 shots at 40 yards is: Left-pattern, -160; penetration, 88: right-pattern, 175; penetration 39; using 3X drs. powder.. Now I am sore such a gun Is seldom met with, and am very, proud to be the owner of it. But the teal test of your gun is in the field there it excelis all others, killing cleaner and handsomer than any gun I ever saw, as yon assured me toey would. Both paper and metal shells work splendidly. Gentlemen, I have to offer you my very best thanks, and will recommend your guns to all. my friends. j - Tours Respectfully, ttKCRT Lobiot. Sloan, Darby andJMacks, Members of Democratic- Conservative Committee: T Gentlemen In connection with Major Engelhard's statement, in this ' morning's papers, 'we the undersigned would respect fully ask yon whether in a meeting of the Executive Committee," referred to by him, he did not state "that he did not want any mass meeting to be held for the selection of candidates for Aldermen i because the mass meeting held a few nights before had been controlled by aliens, . unregistered citizens and boys f" Yours, truly, I. In reply to the above we would say that the above words were used by Maj. Engel hard. Frank H. Darbt, George Sloan. - , - My recollection is that the above words were used except that ii "composed of in part" was said in place of "controlled." Ii J. I. Maces. . - ADVERTISEMENT. In reply to the above statement I have only to say that my remarks, to winch ref erence is had, was in opposition to a mo tion made by Mr. Macks to nominate can didates for Aldermen by a mass meeting. I held that this was not in accordance with the plan of organization adopted by our party, and was not always a fair test of party strength, as frequently persons not legal voters were present and took part in such meetings. And, in proof of this state ment, I said at a recent mass meeting in this city unnaturalized foreigners or aliens (I. think I used both forms of expression to make iu. meaning more explicit, for both mean lue uuv ), boys and unregistered per sons voted. . j '.. was all that 1 said, and I denounced no oae, and I did not refer to foreign citizens directly or indirectly. The unnaturalized citizen or alien who voted at that meeting to whom reference was made was Mr. W. II. Harrison; and quite a num ber of boys voted also. So much for the facts. - i; I again repeat that the report that I said an tliiog denunciatory of, or unkind con cerning foreign citizens or any one else, is an infamous falsehood, and I hereby de nounce it as such. J. A. Engelhard. I republish the card of six of the seven members of the City Executive Committee, including Messrs. Sloan and Macks, in refu tation of the slander: We were present at the , meeting of the City Executive Committee when it was re ported that Major Engelhard made an at tack upon our foreign citizens. We heard his speech on that occasion, and he not only made no attack upon them but said nothing in opposition to them. S. C. Godshall, John Cowan, ra,,ii W. D. Maes. Signed Georqk gLOi W. J.
